How do you TAG Shannon T. Boodram?
Writer. Photographer. Presenter. Wild Girl. Speaker. Feminist. Avid reader. Shit disturber. Listener. STORYTELLER.
As a published author on the controversial issues with teen sex, a photographer whose key motivation has been to disassociate beauty from sexy and as an on-air personality that employs a love-me-or-leave-me communication style, Shannon T. Boodram has grown accustomed to all types of interpretations of who she is. Encountering various labels has been a part of the journey but the one grouping that still heavily irritates her is “Jane of all trades.”
“I am a dedicated storyteller who is working to master this craft on three levels; I don’t see myself as someone with my arms and legs in various pots. Whether it’s producing the picture, narrating the story or putting my perceptions to paper – the desired outcome remains the same so I see myself as someone who operates under one discipline. I am always confused when people ask which one I would choose because I can’t envision a scenario where I will not be involved in all three areas of storytelling in some facet. Ultimately, my lifelong goal has been to have my own TV show, portrait studio and to publish a book every eighteen months.”
Boodram is already well on her way to actualizing this having already published one book LAID: Young People’s Experiences with Sex in an Easy-Access Culture through Seal Press in 2009; hosting a program on Rogers TV called High School Rush that earned her an Image Award for best on-air personality for Rogers programming across Canada; and working as a freelance photographer for big clients such as Nivea, Clinique, The Canadian Breast Cancer Society and Air Canada (to view her photography click HERE).
Boodram is an accomplished speaker and online personality whose videos and blog total over 3 million views. She is also a media favourite having appeared on networks such as Fox News, ABC, CBC, CNN Radio, The CW, Much Music and CP24. Currently her literary agent is shopping around her second non-fiction book while she writes her first fiction novel, she is continuing to take photos for various projects and is seeking out new opportunities to expand her on-air portfolio. She is currently the fill-in host on Rogers TV’s #1 Magazine show Daytime Toronto where you can find her on the couch with A-list celebs, in the kitchen making a mess or in the field connecting with her city. Recently her and her best friend Andrea Lewis began production on a television pilot, Those Girls Are Wild, based on their widely popular site.
With a to-do list a mile high and key focuses in each discipline her key objective for this quarter is developing partnerships and relationships with those who understand her unique destiny. The one piece of advice she would offer anyone striving to reach the same heights is:
“In this business you have to learn that no just means ask me later and word the question better next time. Also if you’re interested in something, explore it! There are few things in life that I wish I did, that I currently do not. To me, that is my greatest success.”
